This happens at the very end of the process.
A proofreader is the last professional that gets their eyes on the manuscript. As your proofreader, I will provide quality assurance or the polish and the fine tuning of the manuscript. Proofing includes making sure there are no margin issues, line spacing issues, that scene breaks are consistent, the manuscript is indented correctly, and that the headers and footers are formatted correctly, confirm the content is on the page it should be on; that the gutters are correct and that fonts are consistent.
As your proofreader, I will also catch any typographical errors, missing dialogue tags, and any other errors that might slip through the copy edit phase. I will point out widows, orphans, and bad breaks. Keep in mind, even books published by the best, top publishing houses will have errors that slip through. The idea is to get the highest quality, professionally-edited manuscript with the quickest turn-around. Readers will forgive one or two errors. They won’t forgive one or two errors on the same page or in the same paragraph — especially when that happens throughout the entire book. I will do a final proofread at a very reduced cost if I have previously copy edited or line edited your book.
